Around the NFL
Scratch one fantasy sleeper: Ryan Torain won't be the next 1,000-yard Broncos running back, at least not this season. Torain, the fifth-round draft choice who coach Mike Shanahan said has "first-round talent," broke his elbow in practice today and will be out a minimum of six-to-eight-weeks. Given that length of time and the seriousness of the injury, Torain figures to miss at least the first month of the season; perhaps more. It's no given that the team will hold a roster spot open at a position they've got plenty of depth at.
Bad news for Torain, obviously, although his absence makes all the other Broncos running backs look a little better. Projected starter Selvin Young, No. 2 Andre Hall, and even Michael Pittman -- who was being worked at fullback but now switches back to tailback -- all increase in value.
