Around the NFL
That "done deal" to Tampa Bay? Not happening. Brett Favre was traded to the New York Jets late last night, putting the Jets on the playoff map in a way that their other offseason acquisitions (including Alan Faneca and Kris Jenkins) failed to achieve.
Thus endeth the quarterback competition in New York. Chad Pennington will be released, Kellen Clemens will serve as Favre's backup. Possible landing spot for Pennington? The Vikings or Bears could be on the phone to his agent before the ink on his release papers is dry.
With Favre, the Jets' projected passing numbers increase, benefiting Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, and probably the tight ends -- either Chris Baker, rookie Dustin Keller, or maybe old Favre goal-line friend Bubba Franks. A better passing game should benefit running back Thomas Jones, as well.

Jerricho Cotchery's stock soars! Pencil in Lav Coles and Thomas Jones up a few notches, too.
