Roy Williams unhappy about role

Posted Sep. 15 at 06:20 AM

Guess Roy Williams doesn't like suddenly being a No. 2 receiver.

Williams complained about his role in the offense Monday, after another ugly Lions defeat and a huge game by Calvin Johnson. Williams also noted that he had Johnson, not himself, on his fantasy football team, and spoke fondly of his role in former coordinator Mike Martz's offense. (Which is odd; it's not as if his best numbers came from Martz's regular four-wide receiver sets.)

“I’m in the same position,” Williams said. “I just think I’m in a different role right now. I really think I’m a role player right now.”

Williams' complaints seem a little odd, as he did get an end zone throw against the Packers (overthrow) and had another big play wiped out by a very shaky offensive interference penalty. But, he's in a contract year, and he wants out of Detroit -- maybe ripping his current offensive coordinator is a way to get more balls thrown his way, or speed his trip out of town.

Detroit Free Press reporter Nicholas Cotsonika's story can be seen right here.

Whatever happened to players who wanted to do what was best for the team? So many of them seem so selfish.

Williams is most concerned about his bank account. He is a contract year player that all of the sudden isn't going to get #1 WR money.

WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! Why is it always the wide recievers who cry all the time. Do you want to win Roy? WHOLLY CRAP! Go out there and Block for Calvin like a good #2! Dont worry, your injury that ends your season is only a couple games away! Take Ocho with you would ya?
