Why this is safe
The Fantasy Index store supports encrypted credit card transactions. We use SSL secure server software to protect your personal information Your name, credit card number, and other personal data can't be read by anyone else as it travels from your computer to ours. It's the same technology used by industry giants including Amazon.com and Buy.com.
Shopping at encrypted internet sites such as ours is statistically safer -- by orders of magnitude -- than handing your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant or than writing your credit card number on an order form and placing in a U.S. mailbox.
Our secure commerce server supports encrypted transactions
On the Fantasy Index web site, pages requesting personal information are delivered through HTTPS, a secure server communications layer (the current internet standard). Your connection is secure and encrypted if the key icon is solid (in Netscape) or if the padlock icon is closed (in Internet Explorer). Recent versions of America Online use Microsoft Internet Explorer as the default web browser.
When you use HTTPS, a software program encrypts your data before sending it to us. It takes whatever you give it -- your credit card number, for instance -- and scrambles it into a meaningless jumble of letters, numbers and symbols so that even if someone somehow intercepts your information, they can't piece it back together into anything understandable. But on our end, we have the key to descramble the information.
