It was a busy year for fourth-round quarterbacks. With Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, Ryan Nassib and Landry Jones all selected in that round, there were more quarterbacks taken there than in the first three rounds put together.
But what are the odds of any of these guys actually being any good?
Tom Brady was selected in the sixth round. He's gone on to have a pretty solid career. Russell Wilson was taken in the third last year; he seems to be on the right track.
But there are a lot more misses than hits on quarterbacks in the later rounds. Since 1990, there have been 31 quarterbacks selected in the fourth round. None of those guys have been home-run type hits. A few guys who've had at least some success, but no big stars. The best have probably been David Garrard, Aaron Brooks, Kyle Orton and Scott Mitchell.
If Barkley, Nassib, Jones and Tyler Wilson have notable careers in the pros, they'll be beating the odds. For those of us in dynasty leagues, the odds are much better taking flyers at the other positions.
