Alexander the great?

Can Danario Alexander follow up on his strong finish last season?

In the second half of last season, only five wide receivers put up better overall numbers than Danario Alexander. Not bad for a waiver-wire pickup. But how will Alexander fare in the team's new offense in 2013?

Who wants him some Danario Alexander?

Alexander was one of the big surprises of last season. He's been bouncing off and on the Rams' roster for a few years. They cut him, and he went on to get picked up off waivers by the Chargers.

Two weeks later, they tossed him into the starting lineup, and Alexander went on to be the league's most surprising pass catching in the second half of the season. Only Dez Bryant caught more touchdown passes in the final eight weeks. Only four other receivers had better overall receiving production.

Now what? Alexander fit perfectly into Norv Turner's offense -- he's a tall long-strider who's best suited to run vertical routes. The Chargers will be more conventional this season, with receivers asked to run a fuller route tree.

Who thinks Alexander will be a top-10 receiver? Top 20? Or is this a guy you're trying to shy away from?

I have him in the mid-20's, with the same $ value as guys like Shorts and Hilton. But I'd rather someone else picked him; big offensive scheme changes make me nervous.

There is a reason why no team offered him a contract, even though he was a free agent. You simply cannot trust his knees. Somebody else will take him before I do.

I am a fan. As a restricted free agent (San Diego could match any offer), Alexander probably wasn't offered a deal because teams would have to overpay to get him away from the Chargers. Certainly he is a risky long-term bet, but for 2013 he could be their No. 1 receiver. Given where he will be drafted, there is a lot of value there.

I got him on waiver wire but dropped him before he went on tear. He was one of best college receivers too but lots of knee troubles.
