Make no assumptions on Eagles quarterback

Vick, Foles, Barkley all options

The Eagles are having an open quarterback competition, and while some teams say that and it's just lip service, it's not in Philadelphia. Michael Vick is the accomplished and high-paid veteran, but he is no lock to win the job.

Some observers have called Nick Foles the favorite, and various sites believe that either Vick could be a veteran backup, or possibly even get cut. Then there's Matt Barkley, who the team obviously liked enough to trade up for in the fourth round.

We'll have a better sense of things once training camp opens, but it's clear that no Eagles quarterback should be selected too highly in drafts. Vick would seem to have the most fantasy potential, but he's not a lock to start or even be on the roster. Philly could even look way down the depth chart to fourth-stringer Dennis Dixon, unlikely though that may seem. He played in Chip Kelly's offense in college.

Bottom line: don't count on Vick as a starting option until we get some exhibition games underway and he proves the best fit for the offense.
