It's not too late to sign up for the Fantasy Index Subscribers Super League. You just can't start Peyton Manning this week (or any other players involved in Thursday night's game). The Super League is free to join and free to play all season. It's easy, and it's fun. Here's how to sign up.
We've found that this simple game makes us better in our local fantasy leagues, because it forces us to take a 30,000-foot view look at all of the games being played each weekend.
Here's how the Fantasy Index Super League works:
Each week of the NFL season, you pick the players who'll have the biggest games. Each roster consists of any 2 quarterbacks, 2 running backs, 3 wide receivers, 2 tight ends and 2 kickers. No frustration over drawing a lousy draft slot here; we give you all the players you want, all together, all at once.
Scoring is simple: 1 point per 20 passing yards, 10 rushing yards or 10 receiving yards (scored to the tenth of a point); 4 points per passing touchdown; 6 points per rushing, receiving or return touchdown; 1 point per kicking point.
Highest score each week wins a gift card to one quality retailer (or sandwich shop) or another. Highest cumulative score for Weeks 1 through 17 wins a prize pack including a 2014 Super Fanatic Package (every football newsletter we publish, before and during the season) and an appearance in next year's magazine. The champion gets to choose between participating in the mock draft or mock auction, the results of which are published in Fantasy Football Index magazine. The runner-up gets the champion's leftovers.
And, oh, the bragging rights! Enter the Super League (again: it's FREE!) and you won't be competing against the unwashed masses who frequent certain megamedia fantasy websites. These are our readers ... and our experts.
Fantasy Index publisher Ian Allan, editor Bruce Taylor and columnists Andy Richardson, Michael Murillo and Justin Eleff will be duking it out with you. Several of us will publish our rosters ahead of each week's deadline (at FantasyIndex.com), so you'll always know what you're up against.
Register right here, right now. Then make your picks, and make yourself a champion.
BEST TEAM NAME: The entry with the best team name, as determined by the Fantasy Index staff, will win a $25 gift card. Please keep team names suitable for publication. Remember folks, there's a fine line between stupid and clever. “Brett Favre’s Cell Phone” or “Mark Chmura’s Hot Tub Time Machine”, those names would be fine. Aaron Hernandez is fair game (encouraged, in fact). But if your team name is racist or vulgar, you won't win.
OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Overview: The Fantasy Index Subscriber Super League will consist of an unlimited number of entries. The contest will extend from Week 1 through Week 17 of the NFL regular season.
Available Players: The initial player pool will consist of all players on NFL team rosters at the start of the NFL regular season at the positions of quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and kicker. After the start of the NFL regular season, any player added to an NFL team roster will be added to the player pool. Once play begins, any player in the player pool may be utilized an unlimited number of times.
Lineup Requirements: Starting lineups in the Fantasy Index Subscriber Super League will consist of the following: 2 quarterbacks; 2 running backs; 3 wide receivers; 2 tight ends; 2 kickers.
League Management Web Address: You can access your team via the Internet by visiting http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2013/FantasyIndex.
Lineup Submission: Lineups may be submitted via the Submit Lineup link after logging in at http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2013/FantasyIndex. It is the sole responsibility of each contestant to submit timely, valid starting lineups each week.
Submission Time: Starting lineups must be submitted before the kickoff of the first game of each day for players whose NFL teams will be playing that day. As games kick off, all players whose teams are involved in such games will be locked onto or off of contestants' starting lineups. Other players will not become locked until their own teams' games kick off. For example, in a week in which a Thursday game is played, as of the opening kickoff of that game, all players whose teams are involved in that game will become locked and can no longer be moved onto or off of any contestant's starting lineup. Players whose teams will play on Sunday of that week, however, will not yet be locked as of Thursday, and can still freely be moved onto or off of contestants' starting lineups until their own teams' games kick off on Sunday.
No Starters Submitted: Failure to submit a full, valid lineup by the first kickoff on the day of the last NFL game to be played in a given week will result in zero points being awarded for that week.
Prizes:In each week of the NFL season, the contestant whose roster scores the most total points will win a prize to be determined by Fantasy Index in its sole discretion. The contestant whose weekly rosters score the most total points cumulatively for the entire NFL regular season will win a grand prize consisting of a 2014 Fantasy Index Super Fanatic Package and the chance to participate in either the mock drafts or the mock auction published in Fantasy Football Index magazine in 2014. Additionally, the contestant whose weekly rosters score the second-most total points cumulatively for the entire NFL regular season will win the chance to participate in whichever feature of the same magazine (i.e., the mock draft or mock auction) the grand prize winner does not choose to participate in.
Ties for Prizes: In the event of a tie for most total points scored in any week of the contest, all tying teams will be entered into a random drawing for that week's prize.
Scoring: Players may score from any position on the field, in the following manner:
Fantasy Points: 1 point per 20 passing yards, 10 rushing yards or 10 receiving yards; 4 points per passing touchdown; 6 points per rushing, receiving or return touchdown; 1 point per kicking point.
Calculation: Scoring will be calculated to the hundredth of a point for all players, such that 1 passing yard will equal .05 points.
League Management and Statistics: All league management and statistics will be provided by MyFantasyLeague.com.
Eligibility: The Fantasy Index Subscriber Super League is open only to Fantasy Index subscribers who have purchased magazines or newsletters directly from Fantasy Index. Prizes will not be awarded to contestants who have not purchased directly from Fantasy Index. Fantasy Index employees and their family members are eligible to play in the Fantasy Index Subscriber Super League, but are not eligible to win prizes. Fantasy Index reserves the right to disqualify any participant for any reason whatsoever.
Additional Rules or Regulations: Should Fantasy Index determine, at any time and in its sole discretion, that additional rules or regulations are needed to administer the Fantasy Index Subscriber Super League, Fantasy Index reserves the right to adopt and incorporate such additional rules or regulations.
