Mike Wallace talking big

Not inclined to put much stock in player predictions or statements in the offseason? Good choice. Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson didn't run for 2,500 yards, and Mike Wallace definitely won't catch 15-20 more touchdowns. Although he thinks he should have last season.

That's what Wallace told the Miami Herald, anyway. "I should have had 15 or 20 more touchdowns. And that’s being modest. If you press me, you have no shot to cover me."

Wallace will of course be working with the same quarterback and head coach in 2014, but Miami will have a new offensive coordinator, with Mike Sherman getting the axe and Bill Lazor replacing him. The Herald cites a Pro Football Focus stat that Wallace was targeted 36 times on deep balls last year and caught 6 of them, dropping 2. So there was clearly a chemistry (or accuracy) issue with Ryan Tannehill, and Wallace himself deserves some blame.

Wallace caught 5 TDs last year, so it's pretty unlikely he'll triple that number in 2014. In 79 career games he's caught 37 TDs, which works out to about 7 per season. That's the player he is, and since his career high with Ben Roethlisberger was 10, it's unlikely he'll put up more than that with Tannehill.

But there's plenty of room for improvement, at least, if Tannehill targets and hits him more often. And Wallace hangs onto all of them.
