Early look at top draft prospects

The NFL's annual combine is going on in Indianapolis, so what better time to take a look at the perceived top 50 prospects who will be entering the draft this May (yes, it's May this year). Few writers have better sources than the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn.

His initial overview of the top 50 can be found at this link. For each player he provides some scout takes on those players (anonymous); take those for what they're worth. Some teams may try to devalue players they really like, or talk up players they have no interest in, to increase their chances of getting somebody they want on draft day.

What is clear from this list is that it's perceived as a strong wide receiver class. He's got three wide receivers either definitely or "probably gone" in the top 18, and 10 in the top 50. Last year, by way of comparison, only 5 wideouts were selected in the top 50 picks.

Three running backs (Carlos Hyde of Ohio State, Tre Mason of Auburn, Jeremy Hill of Louisiana State) make his grouping. Last year only two running backs were selected in the top 50 (Giovani Bernard and LeVeon Bell).

Plenty will change between now and the draft, and fantasy rookie drafts, but it's an interesting early look at these players.
