Randle, backup runner in question for Giants

Among the camp battles that will be waged over the next few months, there are a couple of interesting ones in New York. Perhaps the most important is at wideout, where Rueben Randle and top pick Odell Beckham are competing for starting jobs. Another is for the backup running back gig behind Rashad Jennings.

The Newark Star-Ledger believes Randle will get every chance to prove he's a an elite talent. The Giants will emphasize three receiver sets with Victor Cruz in the slot and, most likely, Randle and Beckham also starting, but Mario Manningham and Jerrel Jernigan could also be factors. Jernigan played well down the stretch last year, although his best spot is also Cruz's.

The Star-Ledger also warns against handing rookie Andre Williams the backup job behind Rashad Jennings. "Don't sleep on Michael Cox or Peyton Hillis," both of whom it says have had strong springs so far. Way down on their list of candidates is David Wilson, coming off a neck injury.

One more interesting fantasy battle comes at tight end. Adrien Robinson is currently projected as the No. 1, but he's yet to prove anything in the NFL. Talented guy and with more upside as a receiver than the other players the Giants are looking at, but he'll need to have a strong training camp to hold onto the job.

This isn't to suggest you burn a last-round fantasy pick on somebody like Cox or Hillis. Moreso it's an indication that Williams can't be counted on as the proper handcuff for Jennings. New York may choose to bring him along slowly; he might be more of a long-term, dynasty watch than a 2014 contributor.
