The Fanex Analysis Draft is underway; first round is in the books.
No big surprises thus far. Three picks into the second round, though, and Peyton Manning is still sitting there. Guys don’t like using early picks on quarterbacks, but this guy threw 55 touchdowns last year.
Jimmy Graham went 8th. I think that’s about the right spot for him.
I drew the No. 3 spot in this draft, which is a pretty good one. I thought there were four running backs in the top tier, and I got the one I probably would have taken No. 1 overall – LeSean McCoy. Not a big difference between these guys, but Peterson and Forte are getting on the old side, and Jamaal Charles could fall off some, with Kansas City having lost a couple of starters off its offensive line and playing a much harder schedule.
You may be surprised that I would include Forte in that top tier, but this is PPR format, and he catches a lot of balls.
I tried to trade down in the first round, seeing if I could pick up some extra points in the first eight rounds, but nobody was interested in moving up to No. 3.
For me, the value of this league is it gives a chance to see where you can get some of the guys on your draft board. I’ve already done one draft and a mock auction, so I’m now starting to figure out the handful of guys that others are a lot higher and lower in the eyes of the other analysts.
This is one of those maintenance-free leagues. You pick your guys, and that’s it. No lineups or roster moves. You get a best-ball score each each week, and the guy with the most points at the end of Week 17 is your winner. Starters include a QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, flex (RB-WR-TE), K and defense.
I’ve done well in this 12-team league. I’ve been in it seven times, and I’ve got three wins, a 2nd, 4th and 5th, with one crappy (11th) finish.
