Guys don’t seem to like the Julian Edelman pick in the Fanex Draft. Even in the actual draft chatroom itself, it was the first choice that generated wow-what’s-with-that comment. One of the guys thought 3.03 was way too early for Edelman.
It’s about catches, I think. This is a PPR format. So any time you can get these guys who are going to catch 90-100-110 passes, those guys are golden.
Below are the most productive wide receivers in that format over the last three years. I’m listing all guys who’ve averaged at least 17 fantasy points per game for each of the three years. This is fantasy production per games started.
Look at how many balls these guys caught. The lowest three I see are Eric Decker (87 receptions), Alshon Jeffery (89 receptions) and the big-play outlier from 2011, Jordy Nelson (who caught only 68 balls but scored 15 TDs and averaged 18.6 yards per catch).
To collect scorers in this kind of league, you want the guys who are going to catch lots of balls. Edelman last year (once they figured out he was their slot guy) caught passes at a rate higher than I think anybody since Marvin Harrison in his 143-catch season.
Also, by the way, note that New England’s slot guy is represented in all three years (Welker in 2011 and 2012, and Edelman last year).
