Miami's offensive line had plenty of issues to deal with last season, most notably the bullying issue with Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin. Those players are gone, but things aren't off to a swimming start for the Dolphins this year.
Mike Pouncey has undergone hip surgery and will miss at least the next three months. Given that the season is just over two months away, it's clear that Pouncey will miss the start of it. It's possible he could open the season on the PUP list, thus missing at least the first six games.
Few teams could withstand the loss of their starting center, and Miami has only an undrafted rookie behind Pouncey -- their lone returning offensive line starter from the 2013 season.
As we discuss in the magazine, it didn't take long for Knowshon Moreno to look like a bad investment for Miami. He seemed ticketed for a starting job, but showed up to camp out of shape, fell behind Lamar Miller, and now he too will undergo surgery, on his knee. Moreno is expected to miss the next four to five weeks, so it's fair to assume he'll be sidelined for at least an exhibition game or two.
That's not necessarily bad news for the Dolphins, as Miller might be the more talented player, but it's an additional offensive piece they'll be without as the preseason moves forward.
It will also make it harder to get Miller at a discount in fantasy drafts. Although the absence of Pouncey raises concerns about the blocking in front of the running backs anyway.
