You have to be impressed with Marc Trestman. He’s only been with the Bears for one year, but in my opinion he’s already proven that he belongs in that top tier of offensive coaches. Sean Payton, Trestman and Chip Kelly; those would be the top 3 in my opinion.
Case in point, Jay Cutler. Specifically, look at what Cutler did around the goal line.
Inside the 10, Cutler last year threw scoring passes on 15 of his 32 pass plays. That was No. 1 in the league. Officially, 18 of 32, with 12 TDs, 3 two-point conversions, 2 interceptions and no sacks.
In his previous two seasons, with pretty much the same offensive group around him, Cutler was the league’s WORST passer inside the 10, going just 15 of 45, with 10 TDs and 2 sacks.
With Trestman
15 scores in 32 plays = 47 percent success
Without Trestman
10 scores in 47 plays = 21 percent success
