Interceptions down

Sacks are trending up, as we discussed in a factoid last week. Interceptions, however, are headed in the opposite direction. If you don't get to the quarterback, there's less chance than in the past that those passes will end up in your defensive teammates' hands.

Currently, teams are on pace for just 14 interceptions per team. That's the lowest total of the last 14 years. Back in 2000, that number was around 17, and fairly steady at 16-17 over the next dozen years.

Interception totals (current and projected) for teams this season and the NFL average for interceptions per team per season since 2000 presented below.
