Can't keep Ben Tate down

One notable change to the rosters of the teams playing on wild-card weekend. The Steelers signed former Texan, Brown, and Viking Ben Tate today. It's not out of the question that Tate could find himself with a significant role for Pittsburgh when it squares off with Baltimore on Saturday night.

It's certainly possible that Tate is just an insurance policy, but most reports say it's a stretch to think that LeVeon Bell will be available for Pittsburgh. Bell suffered a hyperextended knee against the Bengals on Sunday night.

If Bell can't go (and that's the expectation), the Steelers had only rookies Josh Harris and Dri Archer available prior to signing Bell. Harris has a total of 9 carries for 16 yards this season (1.8), while Archer is a scatback type at 5-foot-8 and 173 pounds.

No one should be counting on Tate starting or having a significant role just five days after signing on, but it's possible. He's a guy to consider if you're in dire straits in a playoff league, or simply want a low-salary or last-round pick type of guy to slot into an otherwise strong lineup. If Pittsburgh gets near the goal line, maybe Tate is the guy to tote the rock.
