Dez Bryant

Tough talk will probably be only that

It's a typical offseason story: big-name player a potential holdout. Very often these June threats don't amount to much, but sometimes they do. Those with early drafts might need to decide if the one involving the Cowboys' star wideout is one or the other.

Dez Bryant was franchised by Dallas, and it doesn't sound like there's been any progress on a long-term deal. We're in the talking tough and hard-line stance point of the story, with Bryant telling NFL Media writer Michael Silver there's a "legit chance" he misses regular-season games.

You can take Bryant at his word, but then again, what else is he going to say? Holdouts have no validity if missing games isn't at least a theoretical possibility.

Bryant is one of the game's best receivers and obviously a must-sign for the Cowboys. Nobody in Dallas really wants to see Terrance Williams as the No. 1, especially given the departure of DeMarco Murray. The team is going to need to pass plenty this year, and they won't be nearly as successful doing anything unless they lock up Bryant.

For now I'm putting this is in the no big deal category. The Cowboys and Bryant should work something out before training camp, or early during it. Maybe Dallas is worried about some off-field incident with Bryant, but a deal will eventually get done.

If you're in an early summer draft and wary owners let Bryant fall too far, take advantage.
