Dez, Demaryius, Deadline

Wednesday the day for franchised players

Dez Bryant is making noise about a holdout from the Cowboys, while the Broncos and Demaryius Thomas may be close to a new deal. That's the latest on those players, whose situations should have more clarity by the end of the day tomorrow.

That's because Wednesday is the deadline for franchised players to sign new deals with their teams. After that, their choices are to play for the franchise tag, or sit out.

It sounds like something may be happening with Denver, with the Broncos and Thomas' agent having exchanged contract proposals recently. Maybe that will be the impetus to get something done on Bryant, as well.

Because right now, Bryant is talking holdout, and he certainly has some leverage. The Cowboys would look pretty sketchy with Terrance Williams as their No. 1 wideout. Bryant is saying no deal, no Bryant.

You'd like to think these things will get sorted out positively, and certainly we'll know about what the story is before any of our leagues hold their annual drafts. But it would be nice to get things sorted out by tomorrow and be able to focus on football for all of training camp, rather than holdouts.
