Justin Hunter has been a disappointment with the Titans, but there's always been next year for the former second-round pick. Tennessee has a new, No. 2 overall selection set to start at quarterback, so maybe this will be the year Hunter lives up to his potential.
But Hunter's arrest after being charged with malicious wounding following a bar fight isn't a promising start to the 2015 campaign. Hunter has been released from jail and the Titans seem willing to let the legal process play out, but the league could still suspend him under its personal conduct policy. And the Titans themselves could opt to move on, given that his on-field production has been minimal.
Tennessee has Kendall Wright, and it signed Harry Douglas and Hakeem Nicks in the offseason. It drafted Dorial Green-Beckham in the second round, a move that could be seen as a vote of little confidence for Hunter. (It's definitely not an endorsement.) Green-Beckham is raw, Nicks seems washed up and Douglas is more of a No. 3, so Hunter could certainly be a factor this season. But it's not a great start for him.
Hunter's preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 3 -- coincidentally, when Tennessee is playing its final exhibition game. So that timing for Hunter is less than ideal.
All in all it looks like it will benefit Wright, Delanie Walker and one of the team's other wideouts -- probably Green-Beckham long-term, maybe Nicks or Douglas in the short term.
