Despite a Saints-heavy lineup last week, I'm somehow in the top 50 of this competition. My wide receiver choices have been good, that's part of it. It's on to Week 3, and I'm thinking what I want to do this week is pick players facing the Saints. Because they're awful.
Details were laid out here , so if you missed that column, check it out, and then come on back here.
The contest is totally free, and it's simple. Each week you pick the best 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TEs and 2 PKs (scoring system: 1 point for 10 run/rec or 20 passing yards, 6 points for run/rec TDs, 4 points for passing TDs, straight NFL points for kickers). You will be playing alongside Fantasy Index writers and subscribers, and there will be weekly prizes for the reader whose team posts the best score. Here's my Week 3 lineup.
Quarterbacks: Andrew Luck and Tom Brady. I've been rolling with Matt Ryan, but I think Luck is going to rip up the Titans, and Brady will continue his roll through the games he was supposed to be suspended for. Why fight it? I could go with either Manning brother here and probably be happy, too. Or Cam Newton.
Running Backs: Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson. Lynch should be all over the toothless Bears. Peterson faces what seems to be a mediocre Chargers run defense. Jonathan Stewart makes the list of possibilities here, 'cause he's facing the Saints.
Wide Receivers: Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr. I'm mulling going away from Jones, who's facing a Dallas defense that's been surprisingly good against opposing No. 1 receivers so far. But when push comes to shove, I'll probably start him until he gives me a reason not to. When I forget to submit my lineup before Beckham Jr. plays on Thursday night, I'll be looking at T.Y. Hilton for the Colts
Tight ends: Rob Gronkowski and Greg Olsen. Gronkowski is kind of a no-brainer. He's unique. Olsen is Carolina's best receiver against a lousy defense, and he needs a big week to remind the young whippersnappers that he's still pretty good.
Kickers: Stephen Gostkowski and Steven Hauschka. Doubling down on Stev(ph)ens in what should be blowout home wins.
If this week required defenses, I'd be all over Houston at home against Jameis Winston and New England against Jacksonville.
Good luck to the rest of you.
