Can the fantasy season hurry up and end while there are still some big-name players left? The hits keep coming, as the Saints have placed Mark Ingram on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Ingram's loss will be beneficial to C.J. Spiller, though it's debatable how much of a benefit. Spiller has barely touched the ball the last two weeks; for whatever reason, injuries or learning the offense concerns, he's never really been fully utilized by the team.
Most likely the Saints will employ a committee of Spiller and Tim Hightower -- yes, he's back in the league. Hightower might be ticketed for the main running back role, with Spiller getting somewhere from a third to half the carries and also playing in passing formations.
Hightower also has some receiving ability, or did at one time. He hasn't been a relevant player for years; didn't play at all from 2012 to 2014.
Hightower carried 11 times for 46 yards three weeks ago, against one of his former teams (Washington). Just 1 carry for 2 yards last week, which was one more than Spiller.
Ian said in a PPR format, Spiller would probably show up around 30th among running backs this week; Hightower 40th. Viable players, but not someone to break the waiver budget on. Unless you're really desperate. The Saints backfield will likely be discussed more in our Friday Update.
