Clock ticking on Manziel

Browns probably ready to move on

It's a slow news day in the NFL, but fortunately there's always Johnny Manziel to create some controversy. His off-field missteps (or is that alleged missteps) apparently got helicopter pilots some work looking for him early yesterday morning. Even the Cleveland media has grown weary of the drama.

This column says the Browns should cut Manziel as soon as they're able, on February 8. It suspects the team's new decision-makers share this view, so while we're all discussing the Super Bowl, many will also be discussing how soon Manziel ends up in Dallas.

Manziel actually looked like a functional quarterback at times on the field this year. It's the off-field stuff that he can't seem to put behind him.

If Manziel does end up in Dallas, maybe the team of security types the Cowboys reportedly have had following Dez Bryant around for the last couple of years can shift their attention to Manziel.

Apart from the Manziel drama, the Browns attracted attention recently for hiring Paul DePodesta. best known for his analytics approach that's been a success in an entirely different sport. As this column points out, what's the harm? Things can only get better. Right?

Expect to see someone else taking a chance on Manziel in the not too distant future.
