Dynasty rookie drafts

Smallwood the noteworthy riser since last month

I have a couple of different dynasty leagues, one with friends and one with other fantasy professionals (for the most part; I don't really know a lot of them, but I think they have fantasy shingles). The rookie draft for the first one took place back in May; the other happened this weekend.

This weekend's is shown below. One noteworthy difference is the presence of Wendell Smallwood in the first round; he wasn't even drafted a month ago. Things change quickly. I've offered comments after each half-dozen picks.

1.01 Ezekiel Elliott, Dall.
1.02 Laquon Treadwell, Minn.
1.03 Michael Thomas, N.O.
1.04 Corey Coleman, Clev.
1.05 Derrick Henry, Tenn.
1.06 Josh Doctson, Wash.

Thomas going at 1.03 was the only noteworthy surprise here. Normally Sterling Shepard (who went 7th) slots into the top 6, replacing either Henry or Thomas. Doctson has a foot issue currently which might have caused him to fall a couple of spots.

1.07 Sterling Shepard, NYG
1.08 Kenneth Dixon, Balt.
1.09 Devontae Booker, Den.
1.10 Wendell Smallwood, Phil.
1.11 C.J. Prosise, Sea.
1.12 Paul Perkins, NYG

Smallwood, off some early buzz, is in the first round. Surprising to see Perkins behind Prosise; we've got him ahead of all these other running backs. In my earlier draft I took Perkins at 1.10. In this one I took Booker, basically because I have C.J. Anderson and this is a league where I'm usually scrambling to have two starting running backs. Prefer Perkins, but couldn't risk not having an early season starter, so I'm doubling down on Denver backs.

2.01 Tyler Boyd, Cin.
2.02 Jordan Howard, Chi.
2.03 Paxton Lynch, Den.
2.04 Leonte Carroo, Mia.
2.05 Pharoh Cooper, L.A.
2.06 Hunter Henry, S.D.
2.07 Will Fuller, Hou.

I get that Fuller might be a situational deep threat guy who struggles with drops, and he'll never be the No. 1 ahead of DeAndre Hopkins. That said, there is no way he should be drafted behind Leonte Carroo and Pharoh Cooper. I like Carroo but he's a third-round pick and probably Miami's No. 3 in the forseeable future. Cooper has the cool name and some Randall Cobb to his game, but don't hold your breath waiting for the Rams to have a great passing game.

2.08 Austin Hooper, Atl.
2.09 Carson Wentz, Phil.
2.10 Jared Goff, L.A.
2.11 Kenyan Drake, Mia.
2.12 Keith Marshall, Wash.

Hooper and Wentz are my picks. Might not do anything this year, but in Hooper's case, with only Jacob Tamme ahead of him, you never know. Wentz is my favorite quarterback in the draft, even if there's some bust potential. Would have taken Henry and Fuller, had they been there, but they went right before my two picks.

3.01 DeAndre Washington, Oak.
3.02 Braxton Miller, Hou.
3.03 Daniel Lasco, N.O.
3.04 Malcolm Mitchell, N.E.

Took Mitchell, just a flier really. Pickings get awfully slim by this point in a rookie draft. So slim that nobody has made a pick for the last day, so we're not going to get this thing finished. I'll update in the comments thread if people get around to making their selections.
