Question
Of the league’s 32 current franchises, what four at some point in their past took the exact same name as a Major League Baseball team? (That is, two teams with the same name -- same city, same mascot -- playing in the same market.)
Answer
Pittsburgh and Washington play tonight, and those teams began as the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Braves (the Braves baseball team later left for Milwaukee and is now in Atlanta). The other two are Arizona (once the St. Louis Cardinals) and the New York Giants (taking the name of the baseball team that later left for San Francisco).
