Donte Moncrief is having a strange year. On the one hand, he’s scored touchdowns in all seven of his complete games. But at the same time, he’s averaging only 34 yards per game.
He’s what Buddy Ryan might call a Cris Carter Guy – all he does is catch touchdowns.
Moncrief has had big games in the past. I expected him to catch 70-80 balls this year, forming a nice one-two punch with T.Y. Hilton. (Maybe a one-two-three punch; I also expected Phillip Dorsett to catch a lot more passes.) But Moncrief instead has been largely ignored in most games, finishing with under 60 yards in all but one of his nine games.
Touchdowns are nice, though. He’s scored on 23 percent of his catches.
Among other players with at least 5 TDs, only three others have scored on at least 20 percent of their receptions: Hunter Henry, Kenny Stills and J.J. Nelson.
Larry Fitzgerald has been the opposite, scoring on only 5 of his 102 receptions. Fitzgerald remarkably has gone 10 games in a row without scoring.
