I was a comic book guy, with a fondness for Frank Miller's Daredevil run. I remember an issue where it was mentioned that Bullseye would always land a hitman job because of his name reputation. I think of that whenever a big-name NFL free agent signs on with a new team. Like C.J. Spiller.
Kansas City signed C.J. Spiller over the weekend. He's a former top-10 pick who once had a season with over 1,700 total yards, so his name certainly brings some NFL and fantasy appeal. But at this point, he's just a flier -- not a player likely to do anything this season.
Spiller turns 30 this summer, and it's been a steady decline for him since that big season. Two seasons of decreasing production with the Bills, followed by two years of lesser output while drifting around the league -- Saints, Seahawks, Jets. He barely played for those last two teams last season.
He'll make it to camp with Kansas City, which maybe opts to move on from Jamaal Charles in the next few weeks. But very unlikely he becomes a significant player.
Spiller since 2012 is shown below. Declining yards per carry, declining production in each successive stop.
