Of all the quarterbacks, Ben Roethlisberger is the one that looks to be like a part-time player. He’s not a guy I would want to rely on as a primary quarterback. But if he was drafted as part of a one-two punch, he looks like he would be a nice weapon.
Part of this is durability. He’s played 16 games only three times in his career. So I’m not comfortable assuming he’s playing the entire season.
He’s also the most home-dependent quarterback in the league – at least he has been. Get Roethlisberger at Heinz Field, and he’s as good as anyone. In his last 16 games at home (a season’s worth of work), he’s averaged 341 passing yards, with 50 TDs and 14 interceptions. He’s thrown at least 3 TDs in 10 of those games, with just two games down at 1 TD.
Put him on the road, however, and Roethlisberger turns into a different, lesser quarterback. He’s averaged only 279 passing yards in his last 16 games away from Heinz Field, with 17 TDs and 17 interception.
At home (on average) you get an extra 62 passing yards, and an extra 2 TD passes.
