Week 16 Blackout Picks

Sense of humor with the blackout elves this week

It's crunch time. I've worked my way up to 61st overall, which is nice but not quite good enough -- probably a lot of people missed a week or something. Would like to finish in the top 25, so I'll need a big Week 16. Let's go.

Quarterback: Somebody's got a sense of humor with this week's Blackout picks. Bryce Petty and T.J. Yates. Ho ho. I'm going to go a little crazy and a little old school, opting to use Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers (same draft, by the way). Considered Jared Goff, Case Keenum and Nick Foles too.

Running back: If you're not using Ezekiel Elliott in his first game back from suspension, well, I guess you're trying to move up the rankings by picking somebody everyone else won't be using. And everyone else will be using him. Including me. Lots of other great choices, but I'm opting for Alvin Kamara, although I could happily use Todd Gurley or Kareem Hunt, and just may mix things up with Dion Lewis (with Burkhead out).

Wide receiver: I have to get JuJu Smith-Schuster in my lineup, facing a hapless Texans pass defense with Antonio Brown out. And Adam Thielen, due for a bounce-back game against a poor and dispirited Green Bay team. And of the many viable other options, I'm gonna match up Keenan Allen with my quarterback -- due for a bounce-back game himself. Certainly DeAndre Hopkins and Michael Thomas are nice players, too.

Tight end: Good and bad options blacked out here. Including Gronk, who would be automatic if available. Nothing too fancy, going with Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz. Those guys are pretty good.

Kicker: Half of the kicker selections are blacked out, and one of the guys available was cut two days ago. You crazy Blackout elves! I guess I'll need to go with Phil Dawson at home against the Giant and Dustin Hopkins at home against the Broncos. Because I like kickers at home who I think should win.

Defense: The Bears at home against Cleveland and Washington at home against whatever bad quarterback the Broncos shove onto the field this week look like good options. Pittsburgh at Houston is another good one.

Good luck to the rest of you.
