This is it, one week with one last chance for all the marbles. (An aside, the Internet isn't much help with explaining the origin of the phrase "all the marbles," the answers are kind of circuitous.) I'm 61st overall, which is a little confusing since I was also 61st overall a week ago -- you'd think I'd have moved up or down. Whatever.
Two issues are at play with this week's picks. Or three. One is finding players who are actually healthy and playing. Two is finding players who aren't being rested or likely pulled early on for the playoffs. And three is avoiding what seems to be some really frigid weather in the Northeast, where I live and where it's bitterly, brutally cold right now and through early next week.
Quarterback: Any one of the NFC South quarterbacks fit the bill. I could use Ryan, Brees, Newton or Winston and get a guy who's playing in warm weather, and three of them have something to play for. I'm going with Ryan, who has the most to play for, plus Carolina is really tough to run on. I'm also going with Matthew Stafford, at home against a lousy defense that should be mailing things in. Although Winston might be a better choice, I'll think about it.
Running back: The Saints want to win the division and get that home game next week. So I'm going to just use Ingram and Kamara, both of whom should be the offense and both of whom might well score. Derrick Henry also draws interest, but knowing the Titans they'll underperform, and they might even be stupid enough to give DeMarco Murray a dozen carries playing through a torn MCL. But Henry would also be a good choice.
Wide receiver: First I'm going to pick a pair of Index favorites, Larry Fitzgerald and Marvin Jones. Fitzgerald is seeing a ton of passes these days, and that should be the case again. Jones is matched up with a crummy Green Bay secondary; went over 100 yards and scored twice in the last meeting. And then disappointing Mike Evans makes the lineup, he should be busy in the Saints game. On the other hand, he'll see some of Marshon Lattimore, and he got in a fight the last time these teams played, so I'm changing my mind and going with Julio Jones.
Tight end: I'm going with matchups here rather than recent performance. Jimmy Graham faces a defense he scored twice against in the last meeting. Vernon Davis faces a defense that's given up 3 more TDs to tight ends than any other team.
Kicker: Going with a couple of Matts, at home, weather won't be a factor, their teams should score plenty. Matt Bryant for Atlanta, Matt Prater for Detroit.
Defense: Ravens at home in a must-win game. Patriots at home against Bryce Petty. These are the options I'm very comfortable with this week.
Top 50 here I come. Good luck to the rest of you.
