Question

The Patriots selected Sony Michel in the first round. Back in 1998, they used a first-round pick on running back Robert Edwards, who also played his college ball at Georgia. Since the merger in 1970, what is the only team that’s used two top-5 picks on running backs from the same school (not just first-round picks, but choices in the top 5)?

Answer

Tampa Bay, with Bo Jackson (1986) and Cadillac Williams (2005). Jackson, of course, never played for the Bucs but was a No. 1 overall pick. Six other teams have picked two backs from the same school in the first round, but lots of forgotten players in there. San Francisco selected a pair from Florida State in the ‘90s. Giants are the only team that’s selected a trio – Butch Woolfork (1982), Jarrod Bunch (1991) and Tyrone Wheatley (1995) all came from Michigan.
