Question

Cleveland and Philadelphia are the only teams on the schedule today. Who was coaching the Browns the last time they beat the Eagles in a regular-season game?

Answer

Bill Belichick, in 1994. The Browns went 11-5 that season, with Vinny Testaverde their usual starter. When the beat the Eagles 26-7 at the Vet in November, Mark Rypien filled in at quarterback.

That one was also the original Cleveland Browns franchise that morphed into Ravens and flew off to Baltimore in '96.

Do the Ravens list old Browns in their record books or do they consider their "history" to have begun in 1996?

When the Browns left, a deal was brokered between the team and the city. The name and history would stay in Cleveland. So the Ravens began in Baltimore in 1996 as a start-up team -- fresh and with no history. The Cleveland Browns, for book keeping purposes, have always been part of Cleveland. (There's just a blank spot from 1996 through 1998, when there was no team there.)

Last two years Cleveland had no team. But I see at least five wins this year.

More interesting. That was the year the Birds got off to a 7-2 start, then collapsed losing their last 9. Only good thing that came out of it, was finally disposing of moron Rich Kotite.
