The Cowboys made the most surprising roster move today, giving Dan Bailey the boot. They’re going with Brett Maher (who?) as their kicker. But Bailey won’t be unemployed for long.

Time will tell where Bailey will land, but he won’t be unemployed for long. He’s converted 88 percent of his career field goals, 2nd-best among active kickers with at least 100 attempts.

The Vikings are a Super Bowl contender and have a rookie kicker who missed a pair of 42-yard attempts against Seattle a week ago. They’re probably among the teams that are wondering whether they should make a move. If Bailey were kicking for Minnesota, he’d very much be in play to be one of the first half-dozen kickers selected.

Texans, Jaguars, Raiders, Bucs and Giants all look like possibilities. Bailey will play somewhere.
