Every Saturday morning, I'll take a quick look at all the week's games, offering my own brief take on what I think will happen, as well as touching on significant injury news since our Weekly came out. I'll check in every so often over the course of the day to answer questions, too.
What follows is a brief look at all the games with how I'd react in my own lineups to injury developments or other news. The official rankings are the ones in the Weekly. Those are the ones that subscribers are paying for. Sometimes players are very close in the rankings, and if I get questions like that, I'll offer opinions. Sometimes I like certain players more or less than Ian, and sometimes I have different risk tolerance with injuries/weather issues, etc.
If a guy is ranked 20 spots higher and you ask me who to start, you should really just use the rankings; that's what you're paying for. OK, on to the games!
Jets at Jaguars: Sounds like Fournette is a game time decision, which helps no one. He was practicing, and good chance he's able to return, but if you want to use him, have a back up plan, like Yeldon. Jets offense doesn't seem to have a ton going for it on a good day, and on the road in a bad matchup is even worse. I'd use Enunwa in PPR, that's about it. Jaguars, hard to have much confidence in the offense. They will probably go conservative.
Dolphins at Patriots: I made the Patriots my Survivor pick. I don't feel great about it, but it was them or the Packers, and I don't feel great about them either. Apparently Rob Gronkowski is questionable, adding some intrigue to the whole thing. I'm in the camp that thinks the Patriots might be in trouble this season, but for one week that's overshadowed by the camp that thinks the Dolphins ain't going 4-0. If I had Michel I'd use him, and since I do have James White, I'm using him too. I'm using Kenyan Drake but am as disappointed in him as anyone.
Eagles at Titans: I think the Eagles are a lot better and should win this game easily. I don't really understand how the Titans are 2-1, but fair play to them; they do have a good defense, and their pass rush might cause problems for Philadelphia. But unless the Titans have another fake punt up their sleeve, I don't know how they're going to do much on offense. No running on this defense. Eagles not as tough on the pass, but it's debatable whether the Titans have a functional quarterback. I would not want to use Derrick Henry. Jay Ajayi is expected to return; tough defense he'll face, but reasonable chance he'll score before limping off with his injury of the week.
Texans at Colts: Should be a good game. I think the Texans are better than their winless record, but the Colts have also been surprisingly competitive -- they could easily have won all of their games. Both quarterbacks are pretty good and should have some success running and passing, BUT the Colts will be without both starting tackles, leveling the field with Houston's tackles who may as well not be there. So the passing games might struggle some due to protection concerns against good pass rushes. Not keen on either ground game, Colts due to their committee and Houston due to both matchup and their ground game itself. Eric Ebron should be pretty much a full-time TE, although that didn't work out last week. DeAndre Hopkins is questionable, but I don't consider it worrying enough to sit him (just maybe to not use in a daily league).
Bills at Packers: Randall Cobb is the noteworthy maybe absence. Green Bay should win and score plenty, but I said that last week with the Vikings against the Bills, I guess that's why I'm a little nervous. Buffalo should have LeSean McCoy back, and the matchup is fine; I just worry he takes an early shot to the ribs and that's it. I'm debating Rodgers versus Philip Rivers, as I imagine I'll be doing a lot of weeks. Running back committee for Green Bay, my shares of Jamaal Williams look ungood right now.
Lions at Cowboys: This should be an Ezekiel Elliott game, Dallas doesn't offer much up right now. But they do have a tough defense, so I'm nervous about starting Kerryon Johnson or other Lions. Figuring a low-scoring game and not investing too heavily in it.
Bucs at Bears: Here's the defense that should slow down Ryan Fitzpatrick and company. Is the Bucs defense the one that enables Mitchell Trubisky et al to get off the ground? That's the question. The only Buc I'd want to use is Mike Evans, maybe O.J. Howard. For Bears I need to consider Trey Burton, Allen Robinson and Jordan Howard. A week the Bears will need to get things going if they're ever going to.
Bengals at Falcons: Should be a high-scoring one and I'm loading up in daily leagues. Most notably Tyler Boyd, because he's cheap and performing at a high level. I like Calvin Ridley, too, though I don't want to go overboard chasing last week's production. Mohamed Sanu, ex-Bengal. No Devonta Freeman or Joe Mixon, next week they'll likely be back.
Seahawks at Cardinals: Doug Baldwin returns. Not a great option, but probably my best is one receiver-poor league where I've otherwise got to use some Dolphin. Both defenses have played fairly well, both offenses have struggled. Using the Seattle defense with enthusiasm against Josh Rosen. Larry Fitzgerald has a hamstring injury and is best avoided. Christian Kirk looks OK, but you'd like to see a game out of Rosen before investing too heavily.
Browns at Raiders: Raiders have to win eventually (Browns would beg to differ). Baker Mayfield makes his first start which is exciting. Raiders a little better on offense, Browns a little better on defense, so maybe an unexpectedly higher-scoring game. At least, no reason to shy away from Hyde, Lynch, Landry. Amari Cooper gets one more chance in my lineup.
Saints at Giants: This should be a high-scoring shootout and I'm using players from both teams everywhere. Including tight ends, even (not Engram, but Ellison). Even Eli Manning, who I've said unkind things about recently. Lots of offense a'coming.
49ers at Chargers: Love the Chargers offense in this one. They're playing well, San Francisco is weak and banged-up against the pass, maybe there's some disappointment having set in from losing Jimmy Garoppolo. Keenan Allen is banged-up, but he's like DeAndre Hopkins for me -- avoid him in daily games, unlikely to have a better option sitting on my bench if I hold him out of league lineup. Matt Breida sounds very iffy, so probably best avoided; I'm chancing Alfred Morris somewhere. And Kittle and elderly Antonio Gates. I'm a C.J. Beathard fan, so he's a desperation option in deeper or 2-QB leagues. If you're wondering why I didn't use the Chargers in a Survivor Pool, it's because I already did in Week 2.
Ravens at Steelers: As laid out in the Weekly, what used to be a defensive struggle hasn't been as much lately. Should be plenty of offense, and stars from both teams can and should be used. Not using Hayden Hurst, but since I have him everywhere, I hope he is featured and has a good game and I can use him going forward. Is this the week I get Javorius Allen off my bench and into the flex? Thinking about it. Hard to feel good about using a backup running back but the guy keeps scoring.
Kansas City at Broncos: Can Denver's defense slow down Kansas City? Doubtful. Can Denver's offense keep up against a soft Kansas City defense? Similarly doubtful. But I think you use key starters from both teams and hope for a game like the other KC games this year: lots of yards and touchdowns. Denver's running back committee should be busy, in an effort to keep Mahomes off the field. We've got both backs among the top 20 runners. Like Emmanuel Sanders too.
Enjoy the games.
