Saints rule out Ted Ginn

Adrian Peterson looks good to go for Washington

Ted Ginn won’t play on Monday night. The Saints have ruled him out. So if you’re looking for a fill-in wide receiver for Week 5, there are another pair of options in play.

Cameron Meredith and TreQuan Smith have been playing more anyway. They’ve both been on the field for over 30 percent of the team’s offensive players in each of the last two games. Now that Ginn’s out with a knee injury, they’ll both play more.

Meredith looks the most promising. He’s more experienced, and he’s been coming on. He caught a touchdown at Atlanta, then caught 3 passes for 32 yards against the Giants. If you’re looking for a plug-in receiver for Week 5, he’s definitely a player to consider. Smith probably will have a better career, but he’s just a rookie trying to find his way – while he’s been on the field for 35 percent of the team’s plays in the last two weeks, he didn’t actually catch a ball in either of those games.

On my board, I’ve moved Meredith into the top 60 following the Ginn injury. That’s Standard and PPR scoring. Smith would come 10-15 spots later.

The Saints on Saturday also released Mike Gillislee. New England could use some depth at running back; I expect he’ll probably sign there as an insurance policy behind Sony Michel.

The other Monday night team could also be without a lightly-used starting receiver. Josh Doctson (heel) is questionable, but he didn’t practice at all during the week.

Washington also has ruled out starting guard Shawn Lauvao (calf). Left tackle Trent Williams (knee) is questionable but practiced fully today.

Adrian Peterson (ankle) and Paul Richardson (shoulder) are both banged up, but they’re playing. Both practiced fully today.
