Question
Oakland and San Francisco play tonight. Who is the only quarterback who has started games for both of these Bay Area franchises?
Answer
Jim Plunkett, and he’s a Bay Area guy all the way. He grew up in San Jose and played his college ball at Stanford. The first pick of the 1971 draft, Plunkett spent the first five years of his career with the Patriots. The 49ers put together a blockbuster package to trade for him in 1976, including three first-round picks and a second-round pick. He went 11-15 as a starter for them before being released. The Raiders picked him up, and he went on to win two Super Bowls with them, named the MVP of Super Bowl XV.
