Question

BenJarvus Green-Ellis went over 1,000 rushing yards in seasons with both New England and Cincinnati. Who are the only other two players in league history who went over 1,000 rushing yards and had names including hyphens? Both are retired, but the teams that originally drafted them play this week.

Answer

Maurice Jones-Drew and Karim Abdul-Jabbar (now known as Abdul-Karim al-Jabbar). Both, remarkably, played their college ball at UCLA, and both began there with different names – Maurice Drew and Sharmon Shah. Abdul-Jabbar ran for 1,116 yards as a rookie for Miami in 1996; he scored 26 TDs in his first two seasons. Jones-Drew went over 1,000 yards three times with Jacksonville.
