Question

Buffalo selected Josh Allen with the 7th pick of last year’s draft, and it looks pretty certain that another Josh Allen will be selected in the top 10 this year – most mock drafts expect Kentucky’s pass-rushing linebacker of the same name to be selected early. Since the merger in 1970, what are the only other two names that have been selected more than once in the top 10? (And we’re using the names players went by, rather than their legal names – that, is, Jimmy Smith would not match with James Smith, and Bill Jones would not equal Billy or William Jones).

Answer

There have been three Mike Williams chosen with top-10 picks in this century, by the Bills (2002), Lions (2005) and Chargers (2017). And there were Roy Williams selected two years apart by the Cowboys (2002) and Lions (2004). Including the 1967-69 drafts, Kevin Hardy would also be a valid answer (Saints in 1968, and Jaguars in 1996).
