Question

Ryan Fitzpatrick has signed with Miami, putting him in position to perhaps become the first quarterback to start games for eight different franchises. Who are the only other two quarterbacks who’ve started for seven teams? One of these quarterbacks started a Super Bowl game. The other has a cousin with the same last name who started in three Super Bowls. There’s one franchise where all three of these seven-team quarterbacks have started games.

Answer

Chris Chandler and Gus Frerotte. Chandler played for the Colts, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Rams, Oilers, Falcons, Bears and Rams (separate stints in Los Angeles and St. Louis). Frerotte played for the Bengals, Broncos, Lions, Dolphins, Vikings, Rams and Washington. (Fitzpatrick started his career with the Rams.) Others have been on seven different rosters but haven't started for seven different teams, including McCown, Jeff Blake, Steve Bono and Vinny Testaverde (if counting Browns and Ravens as different teams).
