Viva Murillo!

133-16

The Dolphins look like they're ready to pack it in. Don't you dare follow them.

If the Miami Dolphins aren't tanking, they aren't exactly trying. They gave it a go for a while against the Cowboys, but they also have a "for sale" sign over every player's locker. They've been outscored 133-16 through three games. By way of comparison, the hapless 1976 Buccaneers were outscored 57-9 after three games, and the winless 2008 Lions were outscored 113-59. The 1-15 Dolphins (who started 0-13) were merely outscored 84-61, which would be grounds for a parade among these teams.

It looks like Miami is giving up. But if you're already thinking that way, forget about it.

On paper it's pretty clear what they're doing: Not only are the Dolphins terrible on the field, but they're actively getting rid of their best talent. Laremy Tunsil, Kenny Stills and Minkah Fitzpatrick are gone, and they've received three first-round picks and a second-round pick (some mid-round picks changed hands as well). And they'd be happy to make more deals before the trade deadline. Miami is looking good for next April 23. Unfortunately for fans, it's late September 2019.

So if you're in a dynasty league and already looking up at your opponents, why not add some ammunition for the future and rebuild? If NFL teams are doing it, why not you?

First of all, NFL teams aren't doing it. One team is, and they're embarrassing themselves in the process. The other 0-3 teams have been competitive at times, and have given their fans a few reasons to cheer and a hint of optimism going forward. Some of them are actually adding players: The Jets signed Le'Veon Bell in the offseason, and the Steelers were Miami's trading partners for Fitzpatrick. They're trying to get better and put a stronger product on the field.

Second, we're talking about totally different games. Turning things around in fantasy football is easier than it is in the NFL. The Dolphins aren't going to win a title this year, but you still can. Tough losses and untimely injuries are not reasons give up on your season before October. There's no reason you can't turn it around.

Don't believe me? The Giants started a rookie and are the happiest 1-2 team you've ever seen. The Saints won without Drew Brees. The Panthers won without Cam Newton. The Jaguars won without Nick Foles and the Colts are 2-1 without Andrew Luck. If those real teams can win, your fantasy team can. You don't need 22 starters to work together. You just need nine or 10 to put up some good stats, or at least better ones than your opponent can manage.

It's too early to look at the standings, anyway. The Bills, 49ers and Lions are all undefeated. Will all three be in the playoffs? Will any of them? If you look at some of the teams at the top of your league, I'd guess a couple of them look awfully weak. You could take their spot before all is said and done.

Like I said, the NFL is a different league playing a different game. The Dolphins have their reasons to auction off their remaining talent and slog through the season with whoever is left. They might even win a couple games along the way. But you shouldn't make those decisions in week 3. There's way too much football left. Even if you don't see a comeback, so what? Haven't you ever been wrong about something in fantasy football before?

It's time for a winning streak; not a fire sale. Good luck this week.
