Question

What two teams have gone the longest without competing in a conference championship game?

Answer

Cleveland and Cincinnati. At the end of the ‘80s, the state of Ohio had a team in the AFC Championship game four years in a row (Browns in the 1986, 1987 and 1989 seasons, and Bengals in the 1988 season). But it’s had nothing since. The Bengals’ only other AFC title game appearance came in January, 1982. Cleveland hasn’t played in any other conference championship games but fell a game short of the Super Bowl twice at the end of the ‘60s, losing to the Colts and Vikings teams that lost in the last two Super Bowls before the merger.
