Question

There’s a history between Tennessee and Pittsburgh (who are scheduled to play each other this week). At the end of the ‘70s, when the Titans were known as the Houston Oilers, these teams met in the AFC Championship game two years in a row. Two teams from the same division playing for a Super Bowl berth in back-to-back seasons. Since the merger, what are the only other two teams from the same division that have twice played each other in conference championship games? (These other teams didn’t meet in consecutive years.)

Answer

Dallas and Washington (who’ll also play this week). They played after both the 1972 and 1982 seasons. Washington won both games, advancing each time to play against Miami in the Super Bowl.
