Question

Tua v. Herbert, part 2. Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert will go meet for the first time on Sunday. They were chosen with the 5th and 6th overall picks of the draft in April, and both franchises are excited about their futures. On this front, who are the only quarterbacks chosen with consecutive picks who have both gone on to start in Super Bowls? Hint: one of these players is among the most forgettable starting quarterbacks in Super Bowl history.

Answer

Jim Kelly and Tony Eason. Kelly was the 14th pick of the 1983 draft; he started in four Super Bowls for Buffalo. Eason, who played his college ball at Illinois, started in Super Bowl XX against the Bears in January, 1986. He went 0 for 6, with 3 sacks and a lost fumble, before the team pulled him and put in Steve Grogan.

Super Bowl winning QBs Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning were both taken in the 1st round of the 2004 draft. Can you name the only other time that 2 Super Bowl winning QBs were taken in the same round of the same draft.

It's not the heralded QB class of 1983. Marino, Eason and Kelly all played in Super Bowls but didn't win one. I will mull this one over because I will be able to figure it out. (I think.)

This answer comes a little late. Russell Wilson and Nick Foles in the 3rd round 2012

Wow. That's a really neat question. I had been trying to think about Griese and Bradshaw, and what other quarterbacks might have been taken in the first rounds of those drafts.
