Corey Davis has mostly been a disappointment as a pro – a top-5 overall pick who hasn’t had a 900-yard season. But he’s putting together a nice “contract year” as he heads towards free agency in the spring.

The Titans didn’t pick up the fifth-year option on Davis, so he’ll be a free agent in March. And he’s playing well enough that he’ll get the attention of other teams. He’s a big, fast talented guy, and he’s starting to show it more often on the field. He’s looking like he might be another DeVante Parker (who needed some time before he hit stride with the Dolphins).

Davis on Sunday caught 11 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. He’s also gone over 100 yards in three other games. He’s not as good as their other wide receiver (A.J. Brown) but he’s putting together a good season. Davis was sidelined for two games after testing positive for COVID, but he’s going to blow past 1,000 yards.

When we get to next spring, Davis will stack up well against the other receiving prospects who are headed for free agency.

A.J. Green, Antonio Brown, Sammy Watkins, T.Y. Hilton and Will Fuller, for example, have all had some success, but they’re all question marks because of injury, age and durability issues. (Fuller has been great, but he simply can’t stay healthy.)

With Davis playing well, he’s looking more comparable to the top tier of free agent pass catchers – guys like Kenny Golladay, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson. Godwin and Robinson (I think) will land the biggest contracts.
