Question

Cam Akers ran for 171 yards against New England on Thursday, but without scoring a touchdown. Who are the only three active players who have run for even more yards in a game without scoring at all (whether it be via run, catch or kick return)? One did it in a playoff game. The other three were all former top-10 overall picks (two in the same draft).

Answer

Most recently, Derrick Henry ran for 195 yards in January to lift Tennessee to a memorable upset win at Baltimore in a playoff game. Adrian Peterson ran for 211 against Chicago in 2013. Leonard Fournette went for 225 at Denver last year. Christian McCaffrey (selected in the same draft as Fournette) went for 184 yards against Cincinnati in 2018. All-time, two running backs have run for 170-plus yards but not scored in more than two games. Barry Sanders did it four times. Eric Dickerson did it three times. Seven others have done it twice. Including playoff games, it’s happened 63 times in the Super Bowl era.
