Question

In the Super Bowl era, who are the only two coaches who’ve spent at least five years as a head coach with three different franchises?

Answer

Marty Schottenheimer and Chuck Knox. Schottenheimer with Cleveland, Kansas City and San Diego. Knox with the Rams, Bills and Seahawks. There are another dozen coaches who’ve been at least five years with two teams, and Kansas City is oddly connected to three of them: Andy Reid, Marv Levy, Dick Vermeil. (Levy is interesting right now in that his two teams were Kansas City and Buffalo – those teams will play in the AFC Championship game.) Other coaches who’ve spent at least five years with two different teams: Bill Belichick, Dan Reeves, Jeff Fisher, Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Norv Turner, Jon Gruden, Don Coryell, George Allen and Tony Dungy.
