Question

Leonard Fournette, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams all played their college ball at Louisiana State, so there’s a reasonable chance that the leading rushers for both teams in Super Bowl LV will be former LSU guys. What was the last Super Bowl game in which the leading rushers both played their college ball at the same school?

Answer

When the Patriots beat the Rams in February, 2019, the leading rushers came from Georgia (Sony Michel ran for 94 yards and scored the game’s only touchdown, while Todd Gurley led the Rams with 35 rushing yards). In only one other Super Bowl have the two leading rushers come from the same school – Super Bowl III, with Matt Snell (Jets) and Tom Matte (Colts) having both played at Ohio State. Benny Snell, currently a running back with the Steelers, is the great-nephew of Matt Snell.
