Question

In 2005, the Packers selected Aaron Rodgers in the first round. In 1981, they used the 6th pick of the draft on Rich Campbell (who never amounted to much in the pros). Both played college ball at Cal. In the Super Bowl era, what are the only other two teams that have selected two quarterbacks from the same college with first-round picks? (And if we’re counting the supplement draft, it’s actually three teams).

Answer

Colts are the easy one, using No. 1 overall picks on John Elway and Andrew Luck (Stanford). The Jets used top-5 picks on Mark Sanchez and Sam Darnold (Southern Cal). The Giants arguably can be put in this group. They drafted Daniel Jones 6th in 2018 and chose Dave Brown in the supplemental draft in 1992. Both of those quarterbacks played at Duke. While Brown wasn’t selected in the regular draft, when the Giants picked him in the supplemental, it came at the cost of them losing their first-round pick the following year.
