Question

Nobody on New England’s roster caught 40-plus passes with multiple touchdowns last year. Jakobi Meyers, James White and Damiere Byrd all caught 47-59 passes, but none of them caught more than 1 touchdown. (N’Keal Harry and Rex Burkheard each caught multiple touchdowns, but with fewer than 35 catches.) This has happened only 10 times in the last 20 years (a team not having a player with 40 catches and multiple touchdowns). What franchise owns three of those 10 seasons?

Answer

Chicago Bears. In 2017, Benny Cunningham and Zach Miller each caught 20 passes and 2 TDs; they were the only pass catchers with multiple touchdowns for the Bears that year. (2020 Patriots and 2017 Bears only teams to do this in the last nine years). In 2011, Johnny Knox was the multiple-touchdown scorer with the most catches for the Bears: 37. And in 2004, Bernard Berrian (15 catches, 2 TDs) was their busiest pass catcher who caught 2 TDs.
