Question

Peyton Manning is a former No. 1 overall pick who started in a Super Bowl for a team that didn’t draft him. (Manning was picked by the Colts and won a Super Bowl with them, but he also started in a Super Bowl for the Broncos). Who are the only other quarterbacks who have done this – picked No. 1 overall, then started a Super Bowl for a different team?

Answer

Jim Plunkett, John Elway and Eli Manning. Eli Manning was selected by the Chargers but won two Super Bowls with the Giants. Elway was picked No. 1 by the Colts but won two Super Bowls with the Broncos. Plunkett was picked by the Patriots but won a pair of championships with the Raiders. (Steve Young arguably could be tossed into this mix; he was selected No. 1 overall by Tampa Bay in a special USFL supplemental draft in 1984.)
